The Origin of Nordstrom

Question #2: What is the origin of Nordstrom?

The origin of Nordstrom is very interesting. Nordstrom was started by John W. Nordstrom and Carl Wallins. They starrted the store as a single shoe store in 1901.By 1905 the annual sales went up to $80,000.they opened their second store in Seattle, that was in 1923.John Nordstrom retired in 1928, he passed his share down to the next generation of Nordstroms. His partner Carl wallin retired the following year and also gave his share down to the next generation of Nordstroms. They renamed thier store Nordstrom. In 1929 the buisness doubled the size the Nordstrom store in Seattle.
The buisness was a lot bigger than it was in 1901, it was up to the next generation of Nordstroms. In 1930 when the great depression hit they didn't suffer as much as you'd think they would. In 1930 they made 250,000 in sales. In the years of World War II they suffered much more, leather was shrinking to the equivalent of three pairs of shoes a year. The Nordstrom brothers searched nation wide for supplies. Also in 1950 they opened 2 more stores: one in Portland Oregon and one in a Seattle suburb.Around 1959 and 1960 Nordstrom remodled thier biggest and best store, also they fit 100,000 pairs of shoes in it.Still today the store is doing well.
